The Benefits of Power Pilates

Power Pilates uses controlled movements, primarily focused in your "core" (a term for your torso) to build body strength, flexibility and endurance. It's a body conditioning routine that won't result in bulky muscles. Instead, the movements serve to lengthen your muscles as it strengthens them. The most popular form of pilates is mat-based, where you do a series of movements using a mat on the floor. Other forms of pilates require the use of large expensive pieces of equipment commonly found in pilates studios. Whatever the form, pilates has the power to dramatically transform the way your body looks. It will give you a sleek, toned body with a flat abdomen and and slender thighs in addition to better posture.

Is Power Pilates similar to Hot Yoga?

In some respects Power Pilates is like Yoga. Both are considered mind-body type methods of movement; both emphasize deep breathing and smooth, long movements that encourage the mind-body connection. The difference is that while Yoga requires moving from one static posture to the next, Pilates flows through a series of movements that are more dynamic, systematic and anatomically-based incorporating resistance equipment. The goal with STOTT PILATES exercise is to strengthen the postural muscles while achieving optimal functional fitness.

The benefits may include but not limited to: Increased strength without unwanted bulk Increased core strength, stability and peripheral mobility Improved fitness levels which may help prevent injury Greater ease of movement through a full range Heighted body awareness and mindfulness of movement Decreased impact on the joints Added variety as a compliment to other forms of exercise Improved performance of specific sport skills (golf, skiing, hockey, etc.) Enhanced balance, coordination and circulation.

Health Benefits and the Importance of Hydration

A major factor is gaining the full benefits of any Hot Yoga class is to come hydrated to the class. Drink at least two litres of water before any classes that you are attending. If you are attending a morning class make sure to hydrate as much as possible the day before. Ensuring that you are hydrated is important when practicing in the heat to allow the body to perspire and remove any toxins in your major organs including a deep cleansing of the skin. You will be less likely to have headaches in rooms with infrared heating as oxygen levels remain high and the air does not become "heavy“ and dry.

Furthermore patients suffering from rheumatism or asthma as well as wearers of contact lenses all benefit from the constant humidity levels and the lack of dust-promoting air circulation which are typical characteristics of rooms heated by infrared systems. These conditions generally promote the healing process and provide a healthy environment.
